Bringing Echo Outdoor Power Equipment’s iconic Troll character from the screen to real life was no small feat. It all started with partnering with Legacy FX to design and build a Hollywood-caliber character suit. Once perfected, I cast the right performer and assembled the most nimble production team to document the Troll’s adventures at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in Dallas, Texas.

As a title sponsor of the Men’s and Women’s three-point shootout and slam dunk contest, Echo needed the Troll to be a constant, high-energy presence. Serving solely as a one-person film crew with two creatives, we had to think fast—creating spontaneous moments, capturing everything on the fly, and maximizing engagement.

Throughout the weekend, I juggled multiple roles—producing, directing, filming live, and improvising comedy bits with our performer. From the basketball floor to the streets, we ensured the Troll was everywhere, interacting with fans and amplifying Echo’s brand presence. The result? A series of standout comedy videos and a massive media impact that made Echo impossible to miss.
